REGISTRATION, PAYMENTS & POLICIES


The registration instructions here are for certificate programs and courses held by CERC only,
not for the University of Washington tuition-based programs or areas of study.

General Registration Information

Once you’ve registered for a UW-CERC course or certificate program, you will receive instructions for .

Please register promptly; registration closes two days before the first class, except for those accepted from the waitlist.

Online registration is only available for certain courses. Follow the registration instructions for your course.

TRANSACTION SUMMARY

After you register, you’ll be emailed a registration confirmation called a transaction summary, which serves as a receipt for payment and provides refund dates.

Keep your transaction summary handy. It provides proof of enrollment in a UW Professional & Continuing Education course and contains your student ID number, class schedule and class location.

REGISTRATION HOURS

Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Extended registration hours are typically held Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. the week before and the first week of autumn, winter and spring quarters, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. the first week of summer quarter. Extended registration hours are subject to change without notice.

The preferred method of payment is a Credit Card.  We accept Visa and MasterCard.  Credit cards are only accepted online, through the automated registration system found on the course page in which you are interested.  (click the “Register Here” button)

CHECK OR MONEY ORDER

If you are unable to pay by credit card, you may use a check or money order to pay by mail or in-person.  To pay via check or money order, you must have an invoice generated to apply the payment to.  Invoices can only be generated after registration has been completed.

  • Checks must be in U.S. funds and drawn from a U.S. bank.
  • There is a $25 service charge for returned checks.

If paying by check or money order, the student may not attend classes until payment is received (meaning the check or money order has cleared the bank). [/spoiler]

THIRD-PARTY PAYMENTS

A third-party payment is a payment made under a name other than that of the student.  For instance, if your employer has agreed to pay your educational costs upfront, on your behalf, this is a third-party payment.  To pay via third-party, you must ensure that both parties’ information is entered into the registration system.  These payments can also be made either by check or credit card.

Refunds to a third-party will be granted to the party name under which payment was made.[/spoiler]

CANCELING/WITHDRAWING from a COURSE

All requests to drop a course must be submitted in writing to the Operations office at cerc@uw.edu.

  • You cannot drop a course by phone.
  • Requests should include your name, phone number, course name and order number.
  • If you fail to participate in class, or only tell the instructor that you want to drop the course, you have not officially dropped it.

Students who must withdraw from a certificate program due to unavoidable circumstances may be able to defer to the following program offering and complete the certificate. Email cerc@uw.edu to discuss.  [/spoiler]

REFUND POLICIES & DEADLINES

All students pay a nonrefundable registration fee for every course offering.  Currently, the fee is $80 and is subject to change without notice.

To receive a full refund, minus the nonrefundable registration fee, you must drop a certificate program course no later than one calendar day before the first class.

To receive a 75% refund (less the registration fee) you may drop the course within eight calendar days of the first class.

There are no refunds after nine calendar days of the first class.  [/spoiler]

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES & HARDSHIP WITHDRAWAL

If you are unable to complete a course because of physical or mental debilitation or other circumstances beyond your control, and the drop deadline has passed, you may petition for a hardship withdrawal.  To inquire about hardship withdrawal, contact the Operations office at cerc@uw.edu.[/spoiler]
