Giovanni began his career in Italy where he worked as a civil engineer in the telecommunication industry after obtaining a professional engineering license. Later on, he pursued a M.S. and a Ph.D. with emphasis in Construction Engineering and Project Management from the University of Texas at Austin. His academic career started at the University of New Mexico before joining UW in 2010.
He started as the Executive Director of CERC in 2018. In this role, he has pursued a multi-faceted approach for generating income, implementing sound financial management, hiring and developing new staff, supporting research and professional education, organizing events, maintaining and managing a facility, and encouraging a broader group of academic staff within the department and college to participate in the center’s activities. Beyond his role of CERC Executive Director, Giovanni is active in all three pillars of academic life at UW, including pursuing research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and providing service to the university and engaging with local agencies and the industry.
Outside of the office, Giovanni is a sailboarder and enjoys sailing in the Puget Sound, the Columbia River Gorge or elsewhere in the Pacific Northwest. He also enjoy travelling with his wife and trying new restaurants.
